Support BARCS & Your Local Animal Shelter

HELP ALL THE ANIMALS GET COZY!!! Our sweet pup Mahoney came to us from BARCS, the Baltimore Animal Rescue & Care Shelter, and our newest dog Murphy came to us from Last Chance Animal Rescue. And honestly, we don’t know where we’d be without them! […]

Mahoney has been part of our family for the last 2.5+ years and I wouldn’t trade a second (ok maybe one or two less eaten couch arm seconds…)

Welcoming a new member of the family

Welcoming a new member of the family

We are so incredibly happy to welcome a new four-legged member into our home last week. Meet Mahoney! She’s a shepherd/boxer/we honestly have no idea what else and she’s about 4 months old.

Why are we unsure of the puppy’s origins? No, she’s not from space. Well, maybe she is… haha But seriously, it’s because she’s a rescue from one of our local shelters, BARCS. Actually, both of our four-legged friends are rescues. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate on those who get their dog from a breeder or anything, but if you’re looking for an animal and you can rescue one? Do it! They are the sweetest and you can really find a good one!

I’m so amazed that we found little (soon to be very big) Mahoney. It was like fate! We had NO intention of heading to the shelters after brunch but we were with our friends who are avid rescue/fosterers so when we were close by, it just happened. We toured the kitten/cat rooms (because I had to see those sweet kitten faces!) then got to the puppy/dog rooms and started looking around. Far in the back, semi-behind a mop & bucket, was a sweet little smoocher, just sitting there staring at me. Looking at the papers on her kennel, it looked like we weren’t meant to be – she had been brought in as a stray and they have an automatic 4 day quarantine before animals can meet potential owners. BUT looking at the dates, it had been 4 days to the day! Fate. Someone else could have seen her but been discouraged by the date or because she was in the back or because she was meant for us. 🙂

Anyway, now she’s home with us and we couldn’t be happier. WOO HOO PUPPY TIME!!!
